I am the mom of an 11 year old skater who despite having lost his leg at the hip when he was a baby, lives and breathes to skate. I wished he had picked an activity that was more forgiving (when you fell), but he was determined and who am I to deprive him of what he enjoys most!

He attends an annual Amped Riders Camp that was devoloped by Garry Moore, founder of Amped Riders and an amputee himself. This year Garry is looking to expand the camp from the half dozen kids he has taken in and mentored for years, to more families that have contacted him with news of their children suffering unfortunate amputations, due to illness or accidents, that love to skate.

I want to help Garry and have done some local fundraising to support the camp this year. However, as he takes on more kids and their families, the expense has gone beyond relying on local contributions.

There are so few resources to help kids return to boardsports that they so love after physical injury. And skateboarding, unfortunately is one of those sports that are still fighting for recognition and respectability. Organizations like Amped Riders have hit a brick wall when trying to get support for the wonderful things they do to restore the self esteem these kids have lost.

I am new to this fundraising thing, so I'm hoping you may at least be able to point me in the right direction. It 's a great thing that Garry and Amped Riders do and I would hate to see the camp lose momentum in this economy and die. What the camp needs is a little boost and recognition to continue to provide the support for these kids who love to skate and want to be just like normal kids.

Any ideas or leads you may have for other sponsors to keep this camp going would be greatly appreciated. The kids attending camp don't have much other than hope and support from each other.

Thanks for your time and kindness,

Respectfully,
Kathy Miller (Alex Miller's mom)
